The Hypervision Research Lab, short for High Performance Computer Vision Research Lab, is a research group that resides within the Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Schools at the University of Johannesburg. We specialize in the field of Image Processing and Computer Vision. In order to facilitate real-world applications of computationally intensive Computer Vision algorithms we also work in the field high-performance computing using a blend of CPU and GPU technologies.

The fields of Image Processing and Computer Vision have become very broad in recent years, below are the specific areas that we are currently working in.

Research Areas:

  • Image/Video Enhancement
  • Feature detection and description
  • Automated Surveillance and Tracking
  • Photogrammetry
  • Biometrics
  • Analysis of radiographic images
  • High performance computing with a focus on GPU’s
  • Autonomous Robotics
